Ka Broken Central Locking

I recently bought a Ford Ka knowing that the central locking was not working but got it at a very very reasonable price and was persuaded by friend that he could easily fix the locking, however he cant...
Is there any really easy or simple way just to ditch the central locking and get it to be manually locking?

From looking around on the net this seems to be a common problem with KA's when i turn the key it makes a noise to lock and then makes a noise and unlocks again?

If you get in the car and lock both doors by the handles simultaneously does it lock?
If so, I'd start by checking out the wiring in the multi way plugs and the wiring loom to them where the wiring from the door plugs into the car body. This is one weak spot.
Then it is a case of belling through.
