I have a gas stove which incorporates a glass splashback. I am going to replace it with an electric cooker which doesnt have a splashback. The wall above the cooker has been covered with the the same material as the kitchen worktop (conventional type). Is this regarded as safe enough to use with a cooker please or will I need to install a vertical splashback on to the existing material.

You normally require 100mm clearance to any vertical laminate surface, so a stainless steel upstand would be wise.
