I've got leaky sectional concrete guttering at the back of my house - in all the bad weather we've had lately, damp is starting to penetrate around the window and is causing internal plaster to bubble and crumble. I'm sure what I should really do is get the gutter lined but this will be really expensive as we'll have to have scaff cos the conservatory is in the way so I can't use a ladder.

The previous occupant of our house obviously had the same problem at the front and has painted the underside of the guttering with bitumen paint or something similar. The walls around the windows are bone dry at the front so it has worked - at least for now. This would be an ideal solution as I could lean out of the window and do that. Would I just be storing up problems for the future or is this a money saving solution?

Thanks

There may be more work needed, but if you are going to do anything to fix the immediate problem, you could paint sealer on the INSIDE of the guttering. Doing anything on the underside is not forcing the water to go where it should.

Thanks. Unfortunately can't even do that without scaffolding. Ah well... I suppose I'll just have to put my hand in my pocket...
