fitted a new toilet last year and it developed a leak onthe piece between the soil pipe and the rear of the pan; I put some sealent on it that didn't work so I used some plumbers mate which worked for a few months but now its leaking again and there is a black stain underneath the plastic coupling pipe! Any advice much appreciated :)

Either bite the bullet and remove pan and ensure fins on coupling are not snagged , may need to renew.

Or

Get rid o plumbers mate not what it should be used for, clean up joint ensure joint is dry and seal with a good quality silicon sealant.
Leave to cure before you flush

should do the job no problem .

Don't use any sealant or lubricant on a pan connector.
