Hi,

Not sure if this belongs in the BR section but when do I need calcs and when don't I?

I have just taken out a load bearing wall and that was signed off with structural calcs no problems. I've also put in a lintel above a ground floor window but that didn't require calcs.

I ask because I'm now about to take out another load bearing wall (parallel to the one previously there) - can I just use my old calcs to base my new lintel size off? Or will the BCO expect yet another set of calcs?

Cheers,

If you use a standard lintel, in a standard situation (ie as per the manufacturers guidance), then you wont need to provide calcs

Also, Birmingham BC wont normally require calcs for UB's up to 3m

But obviously you do need to ensure that the beam is adequate - as is any supporting wall and piers/butressing

Thanks Woody,

I'll get the building notice put in so it's ready for when they get back from their break.
