locked files

having stuck windows 7 on here i now find i have some files with a padlock symbol on them

i know what they are old xp service packs

when i try to delete them the flamin thing wont let me

and yeaah i know you lot must be getting sick of me by now

Just ganna hit the hay (it's 1.22am here in whitley!), but thought I'd mention before I go, I know you're fairly savy when it comes to this stuff but have ya tried right clicking on the file/s then choosing Properties then Security then Edit (or it might be Advanced), and then give yourself FULL rights to all the files?

Dabbling a bit with '7', I think the padlock icon refers to 'sharing' as opposed to actually preventing erasure - but then I am sure there is a connection.

I had similar problem I booted from live Linux DVD and deleted without a problem.

Try turning off UAC?

I know nothing about Windows 7 but I had Windows XP files to delete that were locked like that. I downloaded unlocker (http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/) and got rid of them that way.
