hi

as im thinking of extending the side of my semi-detached house, was thinking it would be a good idea to put some rsj's in for a later loft conversion.

currently ceiling joists look like 3x2., span nearly 28ft in total (front to back of house) with a load bearing wall in the middle

i guess 2 rsj's set into party wall, then onto new gable end will be ok, total distance is around 8m, what size would i need so i could work out costs roughly. There is also a load bearing wall in the middle, where a concrete lintel could be placed to support mid span.

Get a SE to come round measure up and give you a design.. just putting in steel beams into the ceiling doesnt equal a loft conversion, you need to consider how the whole roof works first.
