Seeing this thread started me thinking . .

//www.diynot.com/diy/threads/rerouting-electric-supply-cabling.432008/

Our house is around 12-13 years old and as far as I can tell was built this way - we have lived there for 11 years.

The meter is in an external box on the garage wall, in this box with the meter is a 2 pole switch (not an MCB). The feed to the CU (three singles) runs through the wall. up to the garage roof trusses, across the garage and down to the CU - around 10 meters.

The post linked above seems to imply that this should be protected by more than the incoming fuse. Is there anything wrong with this installation?

Current DNO rules limit the length of the cable run from the meter to the consumer unit as 3metres, unless an appropriate fuse is provided.

I would suggest that you need a switch/fuse installed at the meter end. Fused to the right size for the meter tail csa.

No it wasn't - when it was built it was new.

Do you know what type of cable?

Does it have any mechanical protection?

Sounds like there should be something protecting those cables, particularly running around a garage like that. Ideally get an electrician to either add a switchfuse or replace the existing isolator with one.

"No it wasn't - when it was built it was new." be pedantic then.

"Do you know what type of cable? "

Being pedantic - two grey one or green/yellow

Have not looked at ends but looks very much like 2 x 25mm or bigger copper single core with grey sheath probably over coloured insulation. earth is smaller.

From where it comes through the wall it is in a plastic duct up to the trusses, over the trusses it is clipped to a 4x1 board running along the trusses wth no protection and where it comes down the wall to the CU it is boxed in with the circuit cables.

Too much hassle to post a picture

It has no-where for a fuse bt does say on it "Property of MEB" and is made by MEM.

Is marked as a 100A DP switch.
