What would you consider to be an optimum mains water pressure.

I'm asking as we have had to install a pressure reducing valve on the incoming mains to stop a severe water hammer issue. An aqua lisa engineer believes that we have blown a shower valve as the pressure was too high.

I have capped the incoming pressure at 5 bar - I don't know what the actual incoming pressure is - the reducer valve has a top measurement at 10 bar - so I imagine I could just turn the screw on that to obtain a maximum reading.
