Hi guys,

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I'm new here so I'm still learning the ropes.

Me and a few friends are entering a soap box race, under a novelty category, and had the idea to build a bobsled and race as the four Cool Runnings members:

I'm very practical and welcome a challenge, but I'm not sure if this is within my capability and I'd really appreciate it if you could give me a few pointers so I can gauge how hard this is going to be.

The basic chassis wouldn't be too hard to knock together and I'm not at all worried about that, but how on Earth would I get a curved surface at the front? Like this:

And, I know it's the last thing to worry about, but how would I get a shiny finish on it, like in the image? It looks a little more than a spot of gloss paint or polish here and there!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Tom

P.S. Don't tell me I'm mad, I already know that! :D

I'd start with some slabs or underfloor insulation like Floormate-200. Rough cut it with a bread knife then smooth it with sandpaper. It'll take a while to get the shape and be rather messy. Then cover it in modroc (bandages filled with plaster of paris). Then some more sanding. You could then cover that in fibreglass or just paint it as is. If you want a good high gloss finish then use filler and car paint but that'll be a lot of extra work.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you, I never received a notification that you'd replied.

Thanks so much for the tips, I'll give it a go! Will keep you posted.

Tom
