Marked wooden floorboards

Hi
My living room has sanded and varnished wooden floorboards. I've been moving furniture around alot, and as a consequence, the floorboards are all marked and scrached. To get it looking nice again can i just re-varnish it or will i have to sand it back again and then varnish it?!?

Move more furniture around the room, scratch and dent it some more and explain that you have 'aged' the floorboards deliberately for that 'rustic' look!

If the wood is dented, then you'll have to sand the dents out. If the only the varnish is scratched, then rub down the affected boards and re-varnish.

I have softwood varnished floors throughout, and they are all quite dented!!! (I went for the 'no way am I doing that again!' look
