I know its a general no no to apply masonry paint to wood, however I made some window boxes out of some spare decking boards I had. I have spare masonry paint that has been used on the house where these boxes will go so just to get it too colour match I intend to use this paint on the window boxes. If it goes south little has been lost.

Only question - its new timber (pressure treated I assume). Before I apply the masonry paint should I apply a primer/undercoat or, given I'm using masonry is it best not to.

I would use a wood primer first myself.

Use knotting solution on the knots before the primer though.
