Don't know if anyone can help us but we are doing a bit of filling on our house where a gas wall heater and plumbing pipes came out. We have been able to find some bricks which aren't a bad match but are open to suggestions but we are really struggling with the mortar, which is grey. We have put a couple of pictures in our album, which should be available to view. We live in a 1960's house in King's Lynn, Norfolk. Many thanks

You'll never match it perfectly

Use a red building sand and it will come out grey. How hard you press when you point can also affect the colour

Thanks for your speedy reply Woody, that's a great help, we're not worried about an exact match as the filling and pointing are higher up on the walls (unless someone is going to get up there or look with binoculars!). Didn't realise that how hard you press makes a difference! Don't know if you have looked at the pics - any idea about what sort of mix?

It looks quite light grey so a lighter red sand my be appropriate, but don't go hunting around for it, it wont matter to much. A 4:1 should be OK

Looks like it's got lime added to me.
