MDF Fumes

Does MDF give off any nasty fumes and whats the best product to seal it with?

No,it doesn't give off fumes.
It does give off lots of dust if you cut it,and I believe it is bound together with urea formaldehyde resin,which can be irritating to the airways - so if cutting it,use a mask!
And you can buy MDF primer,designed for the job :D
 
Mdf gives off fumes of formaldehyde and small amounts of isocyanates when being cut at high speed. These can be inhaled with the dust but HSE rules state that mdf is neither more nor less dangerous than hardwood dust. Masks should always be worn when cutting. Any dust can be dangerous to breathe in and some wood dusts are not nice at all.

Mdf continues to give off low levels of formaldehyde vapour over a period of time from the hardened resin but this is in very low concentrations.

Thanks - whats best to seal MDF with if its used for a radiator cover?
 
Best coating material is polyurethane based wood primers.
