Hi all,

A few times a day I am getting a disgusting smell coming up throught he kitchen sink. I have put litres of bleach etc down the sink thinking it was maybe within the pipes. Someone mentioned it may well be coming up from the external drains. Anybody know it this is right and if so how do I stop it?

Thanks for your help. :D

check to see if the water trap is being lost in the trap under sink.
the trap maybe loosing its water trap and the smells coming back from drain.

or your water trap (u bend) may have lots of rotting matter in it. put a bucket under it and take it off and clean it out.

it happens after a while, mine needs doing at the moment.

Well, if it stinks, it's not methane, as that is odourless. Probably hydrogen sulphide (rotten eggs) caused by anaerobic bacteria.

It's probably worth checking whether there's any nasties living in the overflow, if your sink has one. Just a thought.

you shouldn't get any smell back if full of water.
did it smell when you had taken it all apart ?
