Hi,

I am applying for Self Build Site Insurance - so I can construct a loft on my house.

The insurer has asked (I assume as I have no prior experience):

'provide a method statement as to how you are going to install the new beams in place and therefore create the new floor'.

They have been sent copies of BC and Struct plans.

My Method Statement is:

Cut void for bearing padstones, bed on appropriate designated mortar.

Remove roof tiles - batten tarpaulins to rafters.
Provide temporary support for purlins - if moving purlin strutts to allow beams to be slid into position.

Support 1st floor ceiling on 5x acro props, load spread using scaffold boards.

Lay scaffold boards over ceiling joists.
Crane steels into loft void and down onto short sections of scaffold butt tube, roll on tube or lever side ways/diagonally into place to rest on bearing padstones, marry up and bolt together beams to angle plates.

Apply dry pack mortar around beam bearings.

Cut, fit and fix wooden joists into webbing or as required by Building Control.

Does that sound like a method statement - I have no idea ?
