rebuilding my attached garage making it 1500mm wider with single block external wall i want maximum height so rathers not trusses
what size would be recommended and at what spacing the roof will be covered in box profile sheets could i use steel channel of smaller depth in place of timber

What width will your garage be overall?
 
Yes, a steel channel would work in place of timber and they could be less deep than timber. You could either run the steels widthways and also have purlins, or more simply, run the steels lengthways and then you wouldn't need purlins.

They probably wouldn't need to be any closer than 1m centres, but there are tables supplied by the sheeting manufaturers to confirm this.
