I am about to tile a bathroom that has some mould that has to be cleaned off occasionally, and about to tile over those areas.

Can anyone tell me what the consequences would be, if i use ordinary non-mould resistant tile adhesive?

Hi - The main cause of mould is a combination of poor ventilation and insufficent heat, particularly a problem in bathrooms because of the damp atmosphere. Wash the mould off with a weak bleach solution, this will kill it. Then rinse well with clean water. Fix the tiles with any decent quality waterproof adhesive. Use a good quality grout, like Mapei. Use Dow or Mapei silicone based sealants for any sealing of joints between shower, bath etc and tiles. These makes contain a fungicide which will eliminate/reduce mould growth. Regards.

In my experience, when talking about mould, it makes little difference what silicone you use - it's how well you apply it. If it's not smooth, it leaves small pockets for water to sit in and therefore mould breeds.
I used to use the Geocel Top Gun Silicone at about £2 a tube with no worries. http://www.geocel.co.uk/prodrange.aspx?r=gtgr
