mp3 music bit rate has changed

Recently had a major pc problem that resulted in a reinstall - no problem.

But on reinstalling some mp3 music files from back up my netgear mp101 media player would not accept them because the bit rate was too high.

All of these files had previously been acceptable to the mp101, but on investigation the bit rates have changed to very high random values eg on one album where bitrate for all tracks was 128, they now vary between 360 and 500.

Anyone any idea whats going on? I downloaded a bit rate changer, it did lower the bitrate to 128 but has introduced a lot of interference.

i'd be suprised if the bitrates would have changed. can you put some of the music on an mp3 player or a different pc to see what bitrate is displayed to determine if it's an issue on the pc or music files themselves

I was surprised too, and now I'm even more confused.

As suggested, I burnt one album onto disc, on my desktop the bitrates per track were indicated as 394, 506, 463, 448, 557, 460, 486, 461, 335, 327 and 352 and its the same when I look on my hard drive. Laptop shows above bit rates as 224, 320, 256, 320, 256, 320, 224, 320, 210 and 224.

And as I said it was the MP101 media player that highlighted the problem because it will not play media above a certain bit rate - 340 I think.

This has effected about 20 albums, in some cases only one track per album ie one track is 526 all the rest are 128.

And all of these albums originally worked without a problem.

Help!!!! :)
