We have noticed a musty smell from our hot tap in the kitchen (downstairs). The hot taps upstairs do not smell at all. We actually noticed the same smell a few months ago but it went away after a while. Any ideas at to what it can be?

Do you mean the tap smells musty, or the water from it?

Its the water that smells. It's a mixer tap, when we run the cold part of the mixer it does not smell, it's just the hot side

It's a complete mystery

The only things that I can see that you can do would be either to dismantle the tap and see it there's any mould or anything untoward inside, or to remove the tap, and soak it overnight in bleach (with the taps in the open position).

Beyond this, don't know what to suggest - see what anyone else comes up with. Interesting

Could it be a flexible tail on the hot water getting past it's 'sell by' date?

Thanks for your really quick response. Will take the tap off and give it a good clean. Failing that, we are stumped!

If the tap has a flexible connector, then replace this (as ticklyt indicates) - these are readily available

The tap was fitted about 5 years ago so it could have 'expired' I guess. Will look at this also. Thanks
