I have a potterton profile boiler which is serviced annually. Over the last couple of weeks house is colder than usual, the heating system is noisy and the rad in the bathroom wont work at all unless the rad in the spare room is fully open at the valve.

I discovered tonight that the noise, which has got much louder, is coming from the pump - a myson compact cp53 installed in the airing cupboard with the hot water tank. Its so bad that it is vibrating to the touch. :!:

System is about 15 years old so I guess the pump needs changing. I have turned it down to level one and it is a lot quieter but I guess this means it could get a lot cooler and is just a temporary measure.

I found a few websites with advice forums saying they are fairly easily changed. I am a girl :D but fairly savvy with DIY so would like to know, how easy. I dont want to go ahead and buy a new one only to find it needs to be installed by a professional corgi trained engineer with specialist tools!

Do I have to drain the system before I can change the pump? is it just a case of take one off, put one on and attach the plug?

Im loathe to pay to call out a plumber on a job that I might be able to do myself. Any advice would be appreciated. If sadly I do need the services of a heating engineer what should I expect to pay

Softus who posts here might come and help you out if you contact him from his profile.

He is not CORGI registered but does not need to be to just change a pump.
