I've just stripped a wall back to basics and painted it. Very nice it is too. Unfortunately it now appears that there are a couple of nails lurking just under the surface of the plaster. Propmpted by the water content of the emulsion, these have mushroomed rust spots on the surface of the new paint.

I can't pull them out as they're big and deep and to get to grips with them would mean hacking off plaster. They're too big to knock in further to try and bury them.

How can I seal them? Can anyone recommend some good stuff? Tried PVA and suchlike, to no avail.

I've also found what looks like an oil stain coming through too. Anything for that?

Throw your PVA in the bin - it`s a WOOD GLUE  ;) Polycell Stain Block in an aerosol.

Or any cheapo oil based undercoat will do. Even hairspray works - same basic components as Zinsser Bin.
