Hi Hope you can help.
What do you use on a new build render exterial wall to seal the surface before painting the builder has said we have to buy really specialist stuff before we paint with masonary pain but the stuff is so expensive for a 5 litre tin and does not cover a lot of area
can we use anything else as have been told by someone in the family that we can use a watered down or thinned out solution of masonry paint.
Your help would be very much appriciated.
Thanks Tim

Your friend is correct that all you need ia a thinned down coat of whatever your going to use. There is no need to use stabilising primer, i think this is what the builder might have been on about. That is only to be used where the surface has become powdery and unstable. New render only needs a brush off then a thinned down coat first.
