I currently have a washing maching plumbed in, i would like to add my dishwasher to sit next to it, can i just use the same waste pipe as the washing machine? And can i just add a set of taps to the pipes going into the washing machine?

Yes, should be ok to both questions. Without seeing the setup its difficult to forecast any pitfalls, but as a general rule its fine.
Dishwasher will be cold fill only so you only need to provide a cold feed for that. Provided waste is 40mm then Dishwasher can connect, anything smaller than 40mm waste isn't advised for one appliance let alone two!
