I'm getting a new washing machine tomorrow and was wondering about trying to reduce limescale. My thoughts are:

1. Calgon- Costs more than a new machine in the long run.
2. Tesco's calgon - Worked in my old machine for 20+ years...
3. Electric or magnetic descaler - With free bottle of snake oil?
4. Fernox Quantomat or Cistermiser polyphosphate doser - not the cheapest but could be worth it.
5. Ion exchange water softner - too expensive for just a washing machine.
6. Don't bother with anything. - After all the machine won't last more than five years anyway...
