Noisy cold water tank

This may be an incredibly stupid question, buy hey I will ask it anyway...

When my cold water header tank refills itself, it seems louder than t should be. Its a very loud hiss. I was wondering if anyone has had experience of this or if it is just something that I have to put up with....

If it has a gate valve on the feed pipe then turn it down a touch.
