I have an old Redring Super 7 shower fitted in my home and the thermostat has gone. I have fully isolated Everything..IE: WATER SUPPLY, DOUBLE POLE SWITCH AND TRIPPED THE RCD FOR ITS IDIVIDUAL CIRCUIT.

I want to replace it with a newer shower but have no idea what Power rated shower the current installation will safely accomodate.

Currently the shower is stated as 7.2KW Max and it is protected by a 32A RCD in the consumer unit, Wired with 6mm Twin and Earth Cable. The run of cable is about 10 metres in length, From the consumer unit it is concealed in the wall for about half a metre then enters the loft which is well insulated and then connects to the double pole switched pull cord and then down through a partition wall and connected to the shower unit.

Am i able to fit a 8.5KW unit, Change the RCD to a 40 Amp and use the old circuit or do i need to change the existing cable to 10mm????

Any advise will be appreciated...

How is this cable run through the insulated loft, you do not say, however the ability of the cable to carry current varies a great deal cable run through the middle of a great heap of fibreglass, cable clipped to joist and fibreglass touching the side, cable installed on tray well out the way of any fibreglass.....

Are you aware of the difference between an MCB, RCD and RCBO?

Cable is clipped to the joists along its route and the loft is well insulated between the joists.

The consumer unit is a crabtree and has a 100ma RCCB fitted. If this helps any.

Problem solved i have sorced a new 7.2Kw shower so it is just a matter of a simple swap without the worry of the electrical issue.[/b]

For future reference where did you get a new 7.2kw shower ? Thought the smallest they did now was 8.5kw.
