I have a very old house with a very steep staircase that would not meet todays building regs. I would like to replace this with a spiral staircase, does this need to meet new regs?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Yes it does.

Spiral staircases are extremely impractical, looking from a 'getting large stuff up and down' point of view.

And you may even find spiral staircases can take up more room than a traditional staircase. I think they need an area of approx. 1.6 sq.m to comply.

If you're struggling for space, you could always look at paddle stairs, which are steep and comply with Part K.
