Morning All,

Having a problem since last night with our Optia HE18 (two years old). The hot water and central heating thermostat are trying to get the boiler to fire, and can hear a clicking noise as the boiler tries to fire, but it doesn't actually fire.

Pilot light is on, fires for about a second, and then dies back down again.

I can see steam coming our of the flue, so it is trying to do something. Tried restarting the boiler but still the same result.

There is also a small amount of water, presumably condensation, dripping from the boiler.

We have a maintenance deal with BG but they can't attend until Monday at the earliest. Not great with a 18 week old baby in the house.

Any advise would be appreciated.

First thing to check .
you have a white plastic pipe coming from bottom of boiler if this runs to outside the house it maybe frozen try defrosting it with a hair dryer or boiling water

Thanks for the tip.

Have given in a go both inside and outside the house, but still no heat.

The boiler sounds like it is working hard and has continued to come on and then off again - perhaps more frequently now. Could this be a sign that this is working and but I need to continue? Any other tips?

Is the water dripping from the boiler casing? If so you will have a water leak inside the boiler.

If your boiler isnt firing then it will not be condensing, so my thought is that you have a water leak, and the water is dropping onto the pilot and burner assembly.

Hope its not a main heat exchanger!!

Regards.

Keep trying with the condensate pipe, if the boiler has been working, then it will have been producing condensate and this pipe could well be frozen. If you are desperate, cut through the condensate pipe under the boiler, put a container underneath to catch any trapped water. This can soon be repaired when weather improves. Might get you going, but dont forget to check the container, it will fill when the boiler is working!

Thanks all, think we're making progress!

Have taken off the condensation pipe have this did appear to have a block. Drained off the excess water and connected back up, but the boiler is refusing to start back up again - at all - no pilot light...

Have restarted using the power switch and the reset button on the side.

Any thoughts?

Andy

Boiler has now kicked back into action and feeling nice a toasty.

Thanks to all.
