i have fitted a 300w halogen fitting with pir outside and the lamp has blown 3 times in 1 week. What could this be? All connections are tight and the lamp is in securely
Are you making sure the new ones don't end up with finger grease over them ?
They should be absolutely clean and finger print free. The weather has been very harsh, could simple wind vibrating the unit be the cause- the lamps are not good at such movement.
When you look at the duff / failed items, is it an obvious 'blown' filament or has it simply broken ?
If it isn't clear its blown then it may not be, these generate so much heat they can sometimes alter the position of the lamp holders , therefore when they heat they move and the lamp no longer makes correct contact. If this is the case, turn power off and slightly prise the lamp holder ends inwards a tiny bit to create a much tighter fit for the lamp. It is also correct as pointed out above to ensure you use something as a barrier between the glass and your hand, any touch could most certainly cause the lamp to blow quickly.
