Outside tap covers / protectors - DIY solutions, or covers that are big enough?

Hi

With the cold weather starting to come in, I'm looking for an outside tap protector... Both my outside taps have pieces of exposed pipe going to them (one from above, the other from below) which means that the protectors I've seen in the shops aren't big enough to cover everything. Reading some of the reviews it would seem many other folk are in the same boat with the same problem.

So I might have to DIY something and wondered whether anyone has any suggestions. Not that I'm against buying something, so if anyone knows of any protectors that are on the larger side, that wold be helpful too. The tap protrudes 14cm from the wall and is overall 16-17cm high.

I just use a standard tap protector , it’s for the tap,not everything , that’s why there is pipe lagging .

But the pipe is so close to the wall it wouldn't be possible to lag it properly. Plus, those hard shell protectors (which are the ones I thought looked best) need to pull in to the wall to be effective don't they?? Otherwise there's be an air gap at the back. Think my tap protrudes too far for the protector to reach the wall...

Turn it off indoors and drain the tap .

It’s possible to insulate a pipe no matter how close it is , covers have elastic strap to keep them tight to wall .

This is the simplest and cheapest method and saves faffing with lagging which may not work anyway
