Hi,

There are a number of nails that are protruding 1-2 inches out of the roof beams. Some of them have been bent over so are safe, however is there any solution to make the ones sticking out any safer. I really dont fancy hitting them with a hammer to bend them over. Can you get anything to stick on the ends of them that will prevent any injury when up the loft.

Thanks for your time

yes bend them over or cut them off
you can even keep plying them back and forth
all depends on the use and your plans

Chop 'em off flush with wire cutters is my first thought.
A blob of mastic over any tiny bit still protruding might be a good idea.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion. The mastic is a good idea. Will this not encourage rust though?

Cheers

Blob of almost any mastic should seal the end, in fact if you use silicone it will be totally waterproof. I don't think you will have a problem.(y)

slide a pipe over the end of them - e.g. the handle from a trolley jack, and use the leverage to do what you're unwilling to do with a hammer.
