P reg Rover Metro 114 GSi - Thermostat

I am trying to locate the thermostat on my grandson's Metro. The top hose which is about 30mm diameter leads from the top of the radiator to a spigot protruding from an alloy block with what I assume are the temp sensors attached but the metal block itself does not seem big enough to house a standard thermostat. The block is attached sideways on to a black plastic housing of some sort and I am wondering if that is where the thermostat is located.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks moderator 9. However, I have managed to get hold of a Haynes manual which answers my thermo query and therefore do not need a response from the members.
