I think you probably mean to satisfy sound insulation requirements? If so, 'approved' constructions don't exist any more and have been replaced with performance testing. You can build it any way you like, as long as it passes the test.

The problem with approved construction was that, even if the form of construction was followed, most still failed due to poor on-site building.

The rule is: 90% of the sound will pass through 10% gaps. If you leave any form of gap in the construction you will have wasted your time and money.
