I have a patio laid yard which is about 26ft long by 12ft wide (going by the size of the slabs that are down) and it is in desperate need of re-pointing, evident by the fact its growing more weeds than there are plants in my boarders and I keep getting pegs stuck in between the slabs! I also need to repair around a manhole cover where cement has broken away in big chunks (over enthusiastic use of a pressure washer by my ex  )

Now I am a complete novice when it comes to this and was hoping to use some sort of ready mixed stuff to make sure I don't mess it up. I've read that Geofix is c**p so what can I use as an alternative?

Any advice is welcome!

I mixed up 3 spade loads of sharp sand with 1 spade load of cement at a time, mixed in a little water so if you squeeze some in your hand no water comes out of it. I mixed it in a bucket and sat with a little pointing trowel and did between the pavers.

Im very pleased with my handy work.

I would concur - that is the pro way of doing it. Just take your time, and wash off any stains you do make straight away. Note that if you make the mortar the right wetness, it won't stain the slabs. Too dry and it'll crumble within weeks.

Wow - the Pro way!

Oh golly gosh that makes me feel good, I'd never done it before, but someone told me to do it this way and it worked a treat.
