patio slabs bedding

just read "numpty with a crowbar"s post,
I'm about to lay my patio, got a duff/dust sub-base - not concrete.

have read thru Paving Expert site but unsure what the actual bedding
mix should be, as it offers so many options

I've got 18" slabs with cobble effect, quite a large surface.

any advice anyone ?

The way I do it, 3 laying strip as you do in bricklaying, then tap it down gently to your level and the mortar will covered the whole slab.

I don't like the blob's idea which give plenty of room for ants & insects etc
