Hi there, I have just moved into a new house.

The washing machine needs to be plumbed in, I have done this several times in the past.

In this instance, there seems to be an additional waste or overflow pipe. Please see the attached picture with labels. When the sink is emptied, water flows out of this pipe and must be collected into a bucket.

What should this pipe be connected to?

I would appreciate the comments of someone who is either a plumber or has plumbing experience.

Those connections are for dishwasher and washing machine wastes. If you are not using them they will need to be blocked off pronto.

The extra waste spigot was probably fir a dishwasher .

If you can't get a cap or blankoff at your merchants creative use of a whittled-down cork and/or silicone will suffice. If silicone clean first and give it time to set.

Or quick fix - plastic bag. Unscrew the spigot connector, place the bag across the outlet and screw the spigot back on. Turn the outlet upwards as an extra safeguard. Will do until you can find a better fix - ideally a blank that fit inside the outlet and held in place when you screw the spigot back on.
