When the pop-up waste on an aquaintance's wash basin is opened, water runs out of the waste at the point where the rod passes through. How can I fix it?
Thanks.

usually there is a little knurled nut there with a seal tighten that

failing that .......smear the innards of the ball+ seal with some ls-x leak sealer and re assemble

I have seen these assembled 'back to front' so the ball on the operating lever doesn't engage with the plastic seal in the waste fitting.

On some I've seen a plastic insert fits into the waste followed by the shaft. The knurled nut lightly clamps the ball into the plastic seal.
It is also possible to incorrectly assemble these by fitting the lever then the seal, but the flange on the seal stops the nut clamping the seal onto the ball, so it leaks

Thanks for the reponses guys. When I dismantled the pop-up assembly to have a look, I didn't see any seal, just a washer behind the knurled nut. However, as there is a fair bit of gunge in the waste, I wonder if the seal is sticking to the waste pipe. I must have a poke around with something, see if it's there.
I will have a go with the Ls-x leak sealer, see if that stops the water getting through.

Thanks again.

Er, Nige, won't that stop the mechanism from working?
