Hi there,

I have british gas (Danfoss) 2 port zone valves in my system and I believe the microswitch has stopped working. The valve powers open, voltage on the supply side, but nothing comes back down either the grey or orange wires.

Does any one know if the microswitches are replaceable?

Thanks in advance

If you can do a bit of soldering then the microswitches are replaceable.

Far better to measure the resistance of the microswitches to see if they have really failed.

They are very reliable!

you should have 240v on the grey as this is a permanent live, if you dont have voltage on the grey you wont have voltage on the orange even if the microswitch is ok.

If they are 22mm two port valves, the grey and orange wires are the only wires connected to the microswitch. Grey and orange are connected together by the switch when the valve is fully open - but not if it is opened manually.

As picasso says but not necessary the grey as some wire the orange as permenat live but one should have a live to it.

But then again it all depends what sort of system you have as the microswitch side of it may never have been connected you need to trace back the cable and see where it connects to

Engineers usually give advice on the standard way that systems would be wired up.

On a forum we have no knowledge of how any individual system has been wired.

Some are wired wrongly, usually by incompetence, others are wired differently because some installers have "their" way of wiring it.

Others are miswired to overcome a fault on a component which will restore working without needing to replace something. Thats often a bodge done by cowboys who want to just get it going and get paid without having to make any return visit.

The first thing to do is to test the switch with a meter.

The switch can be activated manually ON THE SWITCH or when its powered to open by the motor. Opening the valve with the lever does not ( usually ) operate the switch.

The Danfoss Motorised Valve is notorious for "micro switch" fault, but actually the microswitch does not fail, what does is the linkage that activates it! IMHO it is best to slap on a new head nice n easy! ;)
