I've been working on a Potterton 80e which had a lot of problems (almost terminal!).

The remaining problem is that the boiler has a really loud and alarming resonance in the casing when the calling for heating.

It does not seem to be an issue when calling for DHW.

I thought in terms of moving parts i.e. fan, pump, gas valve or diverter valve. i've changes the diverter valve to solve another problem and the pump is fine. if it was the fan bearings or gas valve solenoid it would resonate in DHW mode(?).

Any Ideas?

(i'm corgi registered, reasonably experienced 3+ years and running out of ideas)

I expect its a Puma!

The fan can make more noise at certain power settings. The bearings may be worn.

Loosen the two flue hood screws (long quality pozidrive needed to crack the screws open). Push the flue hood down to seat properly on the heat exchanger..re-tighten. Also check expansion vessel not rattling.
