i've just had a new garage built and i need to get power down to it.
Its about 40 foot away from the house at the bottom of the back garden.
When i installed my kitchen i put an external socket on the kitchen ring main on the outside of the house.

Can i simply cut into this ring main and feed more sockets and lighting for my garage?
Do i need to fit a consumer unit? and can this be fitted from the ring main?
What cable should i use and how deep does it need to be buried?
I am planning on taking up the path which is slabs and running some 50mm drainpipe from the rear of the house to the garage, as i want to run an alarm circuit too.

Would it better to cable straight from my consumer unit in the house to the garage? although i think this will be difficult without going through my new fitted kitchen, something i don't want to destroy in the process.

Thanks in advance for your replies.
:)
