Prepping/Filling big gaps around window

Please see the four images uploaded. I need to prep and repair the area around the window. I feel the right thing to do is pull out all the old silicon filler and re-fill.

What I find a little daunting is the size of the gaps to fill.

How is the best way to do this and what should I use, expanding filler, silicon ??

Advice needed please.
