I'm in the process of making a mid sleep bed for one of my children. Standard planed pine wood. They want it grey so I have some dulux woodsheen grey paint.
I know il need to undercoat and prime it first. I have johnstones aqua water based undercoat which I use on skirtings and doors. Fantastic undercoat. Can I use that on the bed frame or is there a better primer I should be using instead? Thanks

Your Dulux (Retail) product seems to be a semi-translucent finish that allows you to see some of the grain.

Check the back of the tin, I am guessing that it doesn't need a primer.

I would recommend against using a white waterbased primer. You may be able to use a grey waterbased primer, but if the base is lighter than your woodstain, the finish may be rather streaky.
