Doing my kitchen up, and got to the point where I needed to replace the waste pipe. At some point in the past (I am guessing 1990 from the newspaper used to pad the wall before cermet was stuffed over it), the cast iron bend coming through the wall was replaced with plastic that was not UV stable.
I very carefully hacked out the cermet through the wall and this has also exposed the 22m copper gas pipe supply. It was completely sleeveless I have inspected for any signs of corrosion, and it looks fine.
Obviously I cannot retro fit sleeving without getting a RGI out, which is delay and hassle. However it would now be possible to wrap it in denso tape before sealing the wall backup. However a quick Google search only throws up about sleeving with plastic pipe or using plastic coated pipe.
Clearly plastic sleeving would be best, but is a good covering of denso tape; the proper really nasty gooey stuff don't touch it unless you are wearing disposable gloves, Ok?
