Hi,

Was in my mums loft earlier & noticed 4 rafters next to each don't quite reach the ridge board. I thought maybe they had spread - But the birdsmouth over purlin was tight fitting & no other signs of spread. Could they have been cut too short originally? Should she be worried? I'm sure I read a thread somewhere before where every rafter was cut too short with no ill effects? Just a slack chippy lol

I doubt there is anything to worry about but if you have the time and inclination you could buy some 4x1" timber and tie each rafter together just under the ridge. ( collar ties )
