Rainwater Drainage

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but I get different opinions from people, and I did wonder if it was local authority dependant...

Question is, can I connect rain water drainage from gutters into underground soil pipe which is connected to mains sewer?

And what ever the answer, is it a water board or building regulation requirement?

it is a building reg's requirement if you intend working on existing or intend fitting any new drainage.

latest regulations ask for a soakaway, even if there is a storm drain present, provided that ground conditions allow.

the latest series of floods have caused a knee-jerk reaction within the planning department. they are insisting upon planning applications for hard surfaced frontages now.

even more reason for collecting and draining rainwater on your own property.

all those living in clay ground areas, ignore the above. apart from the bit about having drainage inspected by building control that is.

By soil pipe, do you mean foul water drain or rain water drain?

You can't connect to a foul drain unless you are reusing an existing connection and you are on a combined system.

Same principle for a rain water drain - can only use if there is one existing.

If you have a new rain water downpipe off a new roof, then connecting to an existing drain is the last, or least preferred option. First is a soakaway, if that is not practical, then a water course, if none near then drains can be used
