Had to swap over an RCD today - so used my emergency one I've had in the back of the van for probably 1-2 years (brand new and boxed!). It didn't operate on x1 trip test (but OK on x5), so had to get another. GRRR

Do RCD's have a use by date??? Perhaps the mechanism had been damaged by all those speed humps?

Did it smell off? (and you did keep it refrigerated didn't you?)

How many thousand miles has it done?
I wouldn't like to think how many spares I've written off over the years, opening a sealed, but very dog-eared box and pouring out a sad little pile of broken bits before realising the thing had done about 80,000 miles in the back of the van.

What's wrong with speed humps? My wife loves them (but only when she's asleep).
