Hello

Hope someone can help

I'm removing the crap fireplace in our front room.

I understand it will be attached to the wall using some kind of fixing, but I'm having trouble locating where and how it is attached to the wall.

I've highlighted a couple of areas in the attached pics where I think it might be attached beneath the plaster.

Do I just chip away at this area to see if the fixings are then exposed?

Is there any possibility it hasnt actually been attached to the wall in this way and its simply just resting there!?

Any help much appreciated

They could be the fixing points. There's no harm in chipping away at a couple of areas to find them. If not, prise the surround off the wall a little bit using a bolster or crow bar and this should reveal the fixings as the plaster will pop off the wall in those areas.

Remember, the surround is solid reinforced concrete and will require at least two men to carry it out or you'll need to break it up in situ.

I've taken out loads of these, never found one yet with fixings at the top, but that doesn't mean there isn't on yours
get a bolster and a lump hammer and work your way around the edges, you'll find the fixing easy enough

be careful as nicksun says they are very heavy

And I know that it's an obvious question but you are having the gas fire removed and the pipework capped off before you attempt to remove the fireplace?
