I want to remove my shower which was fitted professionally to tile the wall behind. Could someone tell me how to do this please?

my instinct would be tile round it and save some tiles for future use. I say this because the tiles and adhesive will bring it off the wall say 1/4 of an inch, my question being will the water pipe still be able to go back into the water inlet with out leaking.

OK decided to paint instead of tile.Wall would need skimming so shower will still have to come off.Help............
