Hi, I am an electrician and have just started a small shop job which will become a restaurant. rewiring and new fire alarm installed fairly recently. major works to the ground floor mean that I basically have to remove all of the wiring on that level and start again.

3 zones on the system, one for each floor.

I've not really done anything with fire alarm panels but thought id have a go at removing zone 1 and keeping the rest running. only a user guide on site no installers guide. user guide talks about disabling a zone but obviously doing this just means it beeps at you until you reinstate it. tried just taking the wiring out but again just shows fault and beeps. then tried wiring just the last detector on the circuit straight into the panel thinking its dip switches may be set for end of line and then it would just operate as normal but without all the detectors and call points. again just displayed a fault and beeped at me.

Presumably the zone needs reprogramming. can anyone point me in the right direction? building is unoccupied but terraced so would like to keep upper floors running for the duration of the works.

I will bring in a specialist to design the new zone/zones for downstairs and get them to fit and commission.

Thanks in advance

Martyn

You need to move all the other zones down one, leaving the last zone empty. Zones must be sequential, with the empty unused zones at the end.

If you remove any devices, the system will need to relearn them. I believe this is also the case when moving zones around. To do this, power down battery and mains. Then re-apply power, mains then battery. Wait about a minute for it to boot up. It should then error on the unused zones.

Press access and enter the user code 514 (or turn key if key version).

Then

To access programming, press ACCESS 5244.
Press 1 to setup active zones.
Press the number of zones (3 for three zones active).
Press access to exit.

Thanks Lectrician,

Looks like I have to turn off the unused zones with the engineers access code but they have to start from 1. I want to remove zone 1. I suppose I will have to move zones 2 and 3 back to zones 1 and 2 and turn off 3 and 4???

anybody tell me if this is going to cause any further problems?

Thanks

That's what I said? Power down, Move all the zones down one, power up, set the qty of zones in eng mode.

Sorry lectrician, your first post didn't come up when I looked last night. just the link to the manual.

just been down to shop. I powered up last night and thought id just let it run with the fault on it. better than being off completely. so powered up and left presumed the beeping had started with the view of getting the answers and setting up this morning. no beeping this morning! panel looks normal no faults showing. I did leave the last detector connected straight to zone 1.

seems to be working anyway.

thanks for your help

p.s I see your in devon, can you recommend a fire alarm company that could take care of design, commissioning and maintenance. argos fire are the only ones I can think of??

Where abouts in Devon? I don't recognise Argos Fire?

If you left the last detector connected, it would of had the EOL signal enabled to keep panel happy, but it was not reporting a fault due to the missing items! It should f been... :-/
